“Placid Court” is a tribute to the street in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which has been my home my entire life. This neighborhood, as well as several adjacent to it, have recently been witnessing the encroachment of new, private investors who are converting multigenerational residences into lucrative Airbnbs. I wrote this song as a reminder that, in neighborhoods such as this, there exist deeper relationships than these investors could possibly comprehend. For us, even the most simple of occurrences—meeting a friend for a morning stroll—can be filled with mystery and joyful connection to the ground, the trees, and the sky which surrounds us.
